Dean Kane

I am a plastic surgeon who has been immersed in art all my life. As a young teenager I loved photography and developing my photos in my homemade dark room. In my later life I wanted to take photography to a 3D level and personally created my own technique called 3D PhotoSculptures. I wanted to make my photos come to life in a 3 dimensional quality. Here is my process: I take my own photos and put them onto my computer program using Adobe to morph them, change the colors and backgrounds. I then print them onto photographic paper in large numbers of duplicates of different versions of the same photos. I cut out each aspect of the picture (ie if its a flower each petal one by one). I paint the canvas and then recreate the object of the photo onto the canvas (ie a recreating the flower petal by petal, leaf by leaf). I embellish the petals with acrylic paint. When all is complete I place a coating of resin over the entire piece to give it a metal appearance which also keeps it quite durable. I have incorporated metal mesh into many of my pieces to give it a mixed medium.

Again I have uniquely created my own technique of painting the metal mesh. My pieces of art range from flowers to people to architectural structures of city landscapes. The scale of my artwork ranges from as small as 10" by 10" pieces which can be arranged into multiples as seen below as a Scrapbook Art Wall and 20" by 20" pieces above the fireplace to a large scale 5' by 9' that was placed in a downtown Baltimore restaurant.
