Kelvin Robertson

Born in Sydney Australia in 1953 as a child he played football, rode horses and studied ballet for three months when his mother played piano at the local ballet school. During high school he started a rock and roll band and became interested in art. He studied painting at The National Art School in Sydney and in 1975 took his first studio and set out on his journey to make something of himself as an artist.
After some years of struggle in 1981 he was awarded a scholarship to study at The New York Studio School for one year. It was here that his ideas about drawing and painting were really developed and it gave him the understanding and confidence to later take on Sydney Dance Company and Miami City Ballet for nine years. He believes that art is a celebration of life. Being an artist is both the adventure of ones own life and one’s desire to communicate with our fellow human beings.

Artist’s statement
“These works are about looking…about looking at dancers…feeling their presence…the magic…the authority and grace of their movement…striving to capture this…dynamic expression of human form…in line and color…in drawing and painting.”
