Kelly Ruth

Artist’s Statement

Painting is like breathing for me. I have painted for as long as I can remember. Although the focus is continually changing the goal is simply to become a better painter. The work I am currently focused on, is combining the images in my sketchbook with my love of textured abstract compositions. I am quite fond of the sorts of birds living in south Florida, which have come up again and again in my sketchbook, as I have traveled to Miami to visit my brother many times in the last 12 years. These birds have so much character, I am still having fun using them to speak with my voice.

Bio

Kelly Ruth has been dyeing and painting fabrics used in costumes for theaters across Canada for the past decade. Most of that time she spent at The Royal Winnipeg Ballet, although she has also worked in Toronto as a dyer for the stage production of "The Lion King" and as a breakdown artist for such films as "The X-Men "and " Shall We Dance." Kelly continues to serve the Canadian film, theater and dance community through dyeing and painting many of the fabrics used in companies across the country, as well as designing costumes and developing and exhibiting her own artwork.
