My name is Jorge Gonzalez. I was born in Havana, Cuba on August 22, 1964. My life as an artist began very early in childhood, when I became interested in fine arts. Since then, I always involved myself in art by participating in artistic events at school. At age 15, I enrolled in the art school “La casa de la cultura de Guanabacoa”. However, the political orientation of the school made me feel very frustrated and I decided to leave and work on my own. Because of the lack of resources, it was very difficult for me to accomplish most of my projects. Driven by my desire to create art and most importantly to provide for my family, I left Cuba and came to Miami at age 30 during the Exodus of 1994. Soon, I began to create artworks and was encouraged by many of my friends to continue working. In fact, ever since I have not stopped doing so. In 2002, I was reunited with my wife and son in the United Sates, who inspired me to work with greater passion. |
