German GEO Orihuela

As a self-taught artist, I really do not remember when or how I started to draw and paint, but I do know that have always enjoyed it very much. Ever since I was a young boy in Elementary School I have always wanted to present a clean, accurate and precise artwork. My style can be defined as: "Quasi- Realistic" due to many different details that are emphasized and portrayed throughout each painting. I call some of them “Integrations” because the observer can see how the flowers or plant’s leaves, artificial or natural, are incorporated into the canvas. The artworks are presented in an acrylic diptych format, which combined measurements are 47 x 70 in.

After spending nearly six years in the early eighties in Bloomington, studying and working at Indiana University, GEO (German Ernesto Orihuela) earned a doctoral degree in Instructional System Technology at the School of Education. It was at this time that GEO acquired innovative ways of presenting curricula to students using various types of media in the instructional process of learning. He believes, “As a teacher, your main concern is that your students get the same instructional message that you are trying to convey as an educator. Because every child is different, teachers must vary their style and technique of presenting instructional subjects in a simple and easily understood way, in order to ensure student learning.”

In 1984, GEO returned to his birthplace (1947) Caracas, Venezuela, to continue his academic career for 25 years. During the year 1992, he also had the experience of traveling to Europe and living in Paris for nearly a year. The “City of Light” allowed him to observe, learn and appreciate the various schools of painting that exist throughout Europe.

As a painter, GEO does not want the observer to try to understand or discover something hidden in his artwork. Instead, he believes that “although I cannot duplicate Mother Nature, I feel that I can attempt and challenge myself to capture the beauty it provides us by trying accurately to paint in the most simple and easily understood way, like in the instructional process, that my eyes, brushes and paints allow me”.

As an artist, he feels a responsibility to deliver both quality and integrity. He has dedicated the last decade to the production of more than sixty artworks. GEO’s passion to paint can be balanced against his desire to share his artistic details with the versatility and use of vibrant colors. Now, retired from his academic obligations, he is continuing his life and dream in Houston, TX …
GEO has found an inspiration in the words of Eleanor Roosevelt: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams” . . .
