Decker

I graduated in "Desenho e Plastica" – Bachelors in Fine Arts - from the University of Santa Maria - RS in Brazil in 2000 and participated in several painting ateliers during my undergraduate studies, showing my work locally in school art competitions and regionally at independent shows and restaurants.
My pursuit of art has taken me away from Brazil as I received a scholarship to study and research from UNESCO and accepted a position to be a ceramics teacher’s assistant at Universidad de Los Andes in Bogota, Colombia in 1998, where I worked researching textiles. During the first 6 months in research, I became inspired in jewelry production of the Pre-Colombian “Muisca” civilization and eventually explored sculptures built of wire mesh and metal sheets woven.

In 1999, I relocated to the Reno & Lake Tahoe area of Nevada and California, where I currently reside and work as an Interior Designer and painter. I continue to show my artwork at local galleries and my studio, and in recently in New York City at Milk Gallery as part of their "Stoked on Spring" event in May of 2010. http://www.stoked.org/stokedonspring/auction.html

My research consists of dimensional paintings where the viewer can submerge into the various layers existing within the frame and explore a personal journey identifying themselves, or not, to the icons represented. I intend to give an experience of intense colors, textures and overlapping compositions that represent the endless source of creation possible with motion and energy. Using acrylic medium allows me technically to layer the compositions and control the results, giving the viewer an impression of the creative freedom with which I paint.
I am currently studying at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA on a Masters in Interior Architecture and Design and pursuing the opportunity to produce and show my paintings to various demographics of people.
