Jiri Jiroutek

Biography

Born on March 3rd 1967, after graduation at Lounské gymnázium (secondary school in Louny) he went on to study at Vysoká škola strojní a textilní in Liberec (Technical College of Mechanical and Textile Engineering), which he did not finish. From March 1989 he worked in a theatre where he began with photography. A year later he won an amateur photographers contest up to the age of 25. Afterwards he starts working as a photo laboratory technician and in 1994 gets bachelor degree at Slezská univerzita (Silesian University) in Opava, where he attended Institute of Creative Photography. Since then he has been working as a professional photographer. In 2002 in Köln he acquired the certificate QEP – Qualified European Photographer –, granted by the Association of Professional photographers in Bruxelles. In free creation he definitely prefers black and white photography and does not use montage techniques. His favourite method consists in taking pictures on the film which is subsequently scanned and photographs printed. He has organized a large number of exhibitions and his works are especially acknowledged in the competitions outside his mother country.
