Andrew Doyle

Artists Bio

Andrew Doyle, born in the 70’s in Toronto Canada, started drawing when he started walking. His beautiful Italian mother, also a fine artist, and his British-Canadian father encouraged and supported his fascination with drawing the likeness of people from the very beginning.

Doyle proceeded to study Fine Art at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the University of Minnesota, finishing with a major in Art History and minor in Graphic Design. After graduation, his appetite for travel opened and took him to Paris, Rome, and Florence. There, he found affirmation and inspiration to pursue the styles he had begun to develop, after seeing everything from the Renaissance sculptures of Italy to the post-impressionist paintings of France. He synthesized these influences with his years of portrait experience into a new stoic and expressive style.

Andrew’s subconscious and decorative sensibility dictates color, while simplifying the figure to its most essential lines and values. A minimal usage of color and line avoids implying depth and academic descriptions of value so that shapes, both negative and positive, are emphasized and the pieces’ message remains clear. The colors are chosen with awareness of their kinetic energy and magnetic effect when used in certain combinations.

The images depict the inner strength and beauty of the woman and the glory of commitment and love. The subjects do not represent specific people, rather the personas that define them. Doyle wants the viewer to recognize these personas and share in the celebration of monogamy and self-love.

On Andrew’s return from his European experience he relocated to the windy city, Chicago to parallel the artwork with music. Andrew is a bass guitarist with singer-songwriter “Stolie” and previously played in the jazz trio “Telepathics”, as well as the Hip-Hop foursome “Bentframe”.

Andrew’s work can be found in private collections worldwide, Arizona, California, Louisiana, Wisconsin, Canada, Florida, and Ireland.
