Susana Cacho

Susana Cacho was born and raised in San Juan, PR and is currently living in Miami, Fl. When she was young, her parents were passionate about art and were always surrounded by Puerto Rican Artists like Jorge Zeno, Marta Sanchez and William Carmona. As result, art be-came her passion. She became very eager to learn about all kinds of expressions in art and all the different techniques; such as drawing, painting, jewelry design, metalsmith and printmaking at a very early age. Art became her journal; a way of letting go and being herself. She took several art classes in La Liga de Arte and in La Escuela de Artes Plasticas in Old San Juan with several well know Puerto Rican Artists like: Zilia Sanchez, Marilin Torrench, Betsy Padin, Jose Angel Quiñonez and the Widow of Andy Bueso.

She graduated in 2009 from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) with a BFA in Metals and Jewelry and a Minor in Painting. Her jewelry work was always inspired by her drawings and paintings; full of sexuality, emotion and organic shapes. In her graduation year she collaborated with a fashion student whose collection combined with her enamel jewelry was featured in the SCAD Fashion Show and SCAD Magazine of that year getting her great recognition.

The Enamel Collection led the way to El Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico in December 2009 where she has exhibited until 2014. She has exhibited in several major institutions including The Museo de Arte Contemporaneo, The Milwaukee Art Museum and El Museo del Barrio. By early 2010, she took different projects that had established herself and her brand in Puerto Rico, gaining experience and exposing herself to the world of Art and fashion in Puerto Rico.

Today, Susana is again re-inventing herself with a new series of paintings in acrylic looking to make an impact with this new phase in her life as a dedicated painter. Jewelry was a curiosity she wanted to learn but painting was and is her passion to stay.

Artist Statement

"Art for me is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination into something real. I paint because I feel it to be a necessity to express in canvas the thoughts that surge in my mind for my own sanity. It is the way I can cope with life to turn chaos into something beautiful. My work is not about a final product or a specific concept, rather the process of a naive approach, a feeling of innocence of trying to understand and explore the emotions of the past, present and future times within myself...

I draw inspiration from my childhood memories, from nature and from everything and anyone that surrounds me in a given moment. I am a very susceptible, everything affects me either positively or negatively, my style is very energetic with bold strokes and vibrant colors. Currently, I am using acrylic paint, wood and canvas to communicate my current art work called “movement within ourselves...

In this collection, I explore the energy and movement to be able to survive and keep going. Life is in constant movement and because of this every day we get a chance to start over. I am exploring through this current art work the necessity of co-existence in a world that tries to define and judge us."
